Claudio Ranieri returns to Roma

ROME - Claudio Ranieri will be the new coach of Roma after the team sacked boss Ivan Juric after only 12 matches. This will be Ranieri's third adventure on the Giallorossi bench after the interludes of 2009, when he also came close to winning the Scudetto after an incredible comeback against Inter, and 2019.

Speaking with Ansa, Ranieri said that "when Roma calls I can't say no." Despite being 73-years-old he has ended his brief retirement from football, after saving Calgiari from relegation last year. Ranieri has set his sight on new goals, and particularly getting Roma back into Champions League Football. The side currently sit 12th in the table, so it will be a challenge, but nothing compared to Ranieri's 500-1 winning of the Premier League with Leicester City.

Ranieri's new contract includes that he will become a director of the Roman club. A technical director with decision-making power and at the same time a figure of connection between the team and the ownership.

Fans have rejoiced at Ranieri's return, despite him not being the club's first choice. It has been reported that the club reached out to Roberto Mancini and Rudi Garcia but neither were willing to accept the challenge.

All eyes are now on Ranieri as he seeks to turn around Roma's fortune.
